Can You Get an Inground Pool for $30,000 in Houston?
By Action Custom Pools · Houston Pool & Outdoor Living Builder

It is the question Google shows more than any other when Houston homeowners search for a pool builder: can I get an inground pool for $30,000? The short answer is yes, a pool, but not the pool most people are picturing. Here is what each budget buys in the Houston market in 2026, and why the numbers fall where they do.
What $20,000 to $30,000 Buys
At this budget the Houston market offers three things: a small vinyl-liner pool, a small fiberglass shell with minimal decking, or a basic plunge pool. All are real in-ground pools. None is a full-size custom gunite pool with a spa, a tanning ledge, and a finished deck.
Statewide averages show the gap. Across Texas, vinyl-liner pools average about $43,000, fiberglass about $54,000, and gunite about $71,000 before features, decking, and site work. A $30,000 project sits below the average for every type, which means a small pool, a simple one, or both.
Why Custom Gunite Starts Around $65,000
A gunite pool is built in your yard, not delivered to it. Before a single finish is chosen, the project has to pay for excavation and haul-off, a steel-reinforced shell, plumbing, an equipment pad with a pump and filter, electrical service, decking, a permit, and startup. Those costs are nearly the same on a small pool as on a mid-size one.
That is why entry-level custom gunite pools in Houston run $65,000 to $100,000, and why shrinking the pool does not shrink the price in proportion. A 12-by-24-foot gunite pool still lands in the entry tier.
What $100,000 Buys
Around $100,000 is where most Houston homeowners get the pool they had in mind: a mid-size gunite shell, a tanning ledge or an attached spa, upgraded waterline tile and interior finish, LED lighting, and basic automation, with standard decking. From there, $100,000 to $175,000 adds a larger shell, water and fire features, and expanded decking, and estate projects with vanishing edges and full outdoor living run $175,000 to $300,000 or more.
How to Lower the Cost Without Lowering the Quality
If your number is closer to $65,000 than $100,000, these choices move the price most:
Keep the shape simple. A rectangle costs less to form, tile, and deck than a shape with many corners and curves. Choose standard plaster. It can be upgraded to quartz or pebble when the pool is resurfaced years from now. Right-size the deck. Decking is priced by the square foot, and it is easy to add later. Phase the extras. Run the gas and electrical stubs for an outdoor kitchen or fire feature now and build them later, so finished decking never has to be cut.
On a small lot, a purpose-designed plunge pool or cocktail pool is often the better answer than a scaled-down full-size pool.
Spreading the Cost
Most of our clients finance at least part of the project. Pool-specific lenders offer longer terms than a typical personal loan, and many pool loans are unsecured. Our financing page lists the lenders we work with.
Getting a Real Number
Ranges are for research. The only reliable price is one written for your yard, after someone has measured the access, checked the drainage, and priced the features you actually want.
