Resurfaced pool and raised spa with new tile in Houston
POOL RESURFACING

Pool Resurfacing & Replastering in Houston.

A new interior finish makes an aging pool look and feel new again. We resurface gunite pools in plaster, quartz, and pebble, and replace tile and coping while the pool is drained.

A NEW INTERIOR

The Finish Is the First Part of a Pool to Wear Out.

The interior finish is a pool's wearing surface. Years of Houston sun, heat, and water chemistry roughen it, stain it, and eventually expose the gunite beneath. Resurfacing removes the failed material and applies a new finish, restoring a smooth, watertight interior.

It is also the natural moment to update everything at the waterline. Many of our resurfacing projects include new tile and coping, and some grow into a full pool remodel with new decking, equipment, or an added spa.

Plaster, Quartz, and Pebble

Proper Surface Preparation

The old finish is prepared so the new one bonds to the shell instead of the failing layer.

Tile and Coping Together

Waterline tile and coping are replaced while the pool is empty, when it costs the least.

Startup Handled for You

We fill, balance, and brush the new finish through its startup period.

FINISHES AND COST

Pool Resurfacing Cost in Houston, by Finish.

The finish you choose sets both the price and how long it will be before the pool needs resurfacing again. These are 2026 Houston-market ranges per square foot of interior surface.

2026 Houston market pool resurfacing cost and lifespan by finish
FinishCost per Sq FtTypical Lifespan and Character
Standard plaster$4 – $87 to 12 years. Smooth, classic white or tinted; lowest cost
Quartz$7 – $1010 to 15 years. Harder and more stain-resistant; wide color range
Pebble$7 – $1515 to 20+ years. Most durable; natural, textured appearance

Most Houston homeowners spend about $6,000 to $15,000 to resurface a residential pool. Ranges are 2026 market figures for planning, not a quote; we measure your pool and price it on site, free of charge. For new-pool pricing see the Houston Pool Cost Guide.

Signs It Is Time to Resurface

A rough surface that scrapes feet and snags swimsuits. Stains that return after brushing or an acid wash. Plaster that is pitting, flaking, or showing gray gunite. Fine cracks spreading across the finish.

Any one of these means the finish has reached the end of its life. Left alone, the damage moves from cosmetic to structural as water reaches the shell.

What Resurfacing Includes

The pool is drained and the existing finish is prepared so the new material bonds to sound substrate. Cracks and hollow spots are repaired, fittings and lights are reset, and the new finish is applied by hand in a single continuous application.

The pool is then filled without stopping, the water is balanced, and the surface is brushed through startup.

Choosing a Finish and a Color

Plaster gives the smooth, bright look most older Houston pools were built with. Quartz adds hardness and color. Pebble trades a little smoothness for the longest life and a natural look.

The finish color drives the water color, from pale blue to deep blue to green-gray, so we look at samples wet and in daylight before you choose.

Waterline Tile and Coping

Dated tile and cracked coping make a freshly resurfaced pool look unfinished. Both are far easier to replace while the pool is empty.

If the deck is also due, or you want to add a tanning ledge or spa, the project becomes a pool remodel and we price it as one job.

Houston Conditions

Long swim seasons, high summer water temperatures, and heavy rain that dilutes and unbalances water all shorten a finish's life here. Draining also has to be planned around groundwater after wet weather.

We schedule application day around the forecast, because a new finish should not be rained on before the pool is filled.

Making the New Finish Last

Water chemistry decides whether a finish reaches the long end of its range. Balanced pH, alkalinity, and calcium protect it; aggressive water etches it.

Adding automation and a salt or chemical controller during the project keeps the water steady with far less effort.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Pool Resurfacing in Houston — Questions Answered

Most Houston homeowners spend roughly $6,000 to $15,000 to resurface a residential pool in 2026. Standard plaster runs about $4 to $8 per square foot of interior surface, quartz $7 to $10, and pebble $7 to $15. The pool's size, the finish, and any tile or coping replaced at the same time set the final number. We quote from an on-site assessment, free of charge.

It depends on the finish and on water chemistry. Standard plaster typically lasts 7 to 12 years, quartz 10 to 15, and pebble 15 to 20 years or more. Balanced water is what gets a finish to the long end of its range.

Replastering means applying a new plaster interior. Resurfacing is the broader term: it covers replastering as well as upgrading to a quartz or pebble finish. The preparation is the same either way.

A surface that feels rough or snags swimsuits, stains that will not brush or acid-wash out, plaster that is flaking, pitting, or showing gray gunite, and hairline cracks spreading across the finish are the usual signs.

Resurfacing is measured in weeks rather than months. The pool is drained, the old surface is prepared, the new finish is applied, and the pool is refilled and started up. Adding new tile, coping, or repairs extends the schedule, and rain can delay application day.

Plaster is the classic smooth white finish at the lowest cost. Quartz is harder, more stain-resistant, and comes in more colors. Pebble is the most durable and gives a natural, textured look. We bring samples so you can compare color and feel in person.

A 20,000-gallon pool is roughly 16 by 32 feet, with about 1,000 square feet of interior surface. At 2026 Houston-market rates that is about $6,000 to $8,000 in standard plaster, $7,000 to $10,000 in quartz, and $7,000 to $15,000 in pebble, before any tile or coping.

Standard white plaster is the lowest-cost durable finish. Pebble costs more up front but lasts the longest, typically 15 to 20 years or more, so its cost per year of service is often the lowest of the three.

Fall through early spring is the easiest window: the pool is out of use, temperatures are mild for curing, and schedules are more open. Resurfacing can be done in any month here; in summer we plan application day around afternoon heat and storms.

Yes. The interior finish largely determines the water color, so resurfacing is the moment to move from light blue to a deeper blue, a lagoon green, or a darker tone.

Usually, yes. The pool is already drained and the crew is already on site, so replacing dated waterline tile and worn coping during a resurface costs less than doing either as a separate project later.

The new finish cures under water. After the pool is filled, the water is balanced and the surface is brushed through a startup period before normal use; we give you the startup schedule for your specific finish.
WHILE THE POOL IS EMPTY

A Good Time to Update the Rest.

A drained pool is the least expensive moment to modernize what surrounds it. Many resurfacing clients add new equipment, lighting, or decking in the same project.
